Imagine stepping into a coffee shop in a new town the day after you left your fiancé at the alter to see your face on a poster behind the counter with the words “Do Not Serve” on it. This is what happens to Naomi Witt when she arrives in Knockemout to help her evil twin sister.
Instead of being meeting her sister in the coffee shop, the patrons call the local sheriff’s brother, Knox Morgan, to warn him the “Tina” is in the coffee shop. Knox mistakes Naomi for Tina and starts yelling at her. Once she tells him she’s not her sister, she goes outside to find her car stolen.
Knox takes her to the police station to report it, and then back to her motel, where they find her room broken into, money missing, and oh, Tina’s 11-year-old daughter sitting on the bed. After she finds out her twin stole everything from her, Naomi takes guardianship of her niece and tries to build a life in Knockemout.
Her and Knox grow closer and start a relationship, from which he runs from when things feel too real for him. Her sister returns and chaos ensues when Naomi and her niece are kidnapped.
There are some funny moments in this book, I was in stitches when the author described the fight scene between Knox and his brother. Imagine two men in the 40s putting each other in headlocks and throwing punches over a woman they both met earlier that day. It reminded me of the fight scene in Bridget Jones’ Diary.
This is also a book about a recovering people pleaser and people learning to let go of their past’s and move forward to a better future.
