In her quest to help Emmy heal after Atti’s murder, Willa finds Emmy meeting with sols and becomes worried about her pseudo-sister. The sols she meets with are the sons of men who in the running to become the next Vice-Chancellor of Blesswood.

The brothers have been summoned by Staviti and have enlisted Cyrus’s help in temporarily blocking Rau’s curse from causing harm to Willa while they are in Topia.

After successfully tying her soul to magic stone, Willa comes to in a cart with Emmy and Evie, on their way to the vote for Vice-Chancellor, where she blacks out again. When she wakes a second time, she finds out the building was set alight and that Evie was hurt during the blaze.

She blacks out once more and comes to, and that she is being taken to the outer ring by Dru and Karyn, the sol that pretended to be her in the first book and is left there with no food or water or civilization.

She meets another dweller named Luc, who is transporting deceased dwellers to a cave to the Guardians, and this is where the Topia servers are made. There is more that happens involving Panteras and Willa making her way to Topia.

While back in Topia, Willa learns about the true creation of the gods and how the water in Topia is special and used to run into Minatsol, and more about her own background and how to control her chaos.

The gods force the Abcurses and Willa to fight in the arena, and one of the opponents is Willa’s mom, who is now a server named Donald. In her attempt to save her mom, servers swarm the arena. Willa gets her mom to help her evacuate the sols and dwellers from the arena.

The Abcurses and Willa flee Blesswood and hide out in a nearby cave. Rau and Cyrus find them, and Willa is stabbed by Cyrus, dies, and is smuggled back to Topia where she becomes a god.

This book was a bit of a roller coaster of emotions, and I really felt sad and happy for Willa, while her and the Abcurses finally admit their feelings, Willa still must deal with the loss of her mother and all the changes to her life. Of course there were some funny moments too.

I absolutely could not stop myself from laughing until I cried when the authors described Operation Bare Ass. This bit of comedic relief in a tense situation was perfectly timed and really added to the book.
