It is said that when a sol dies, they have the chance to become a god, whereas a dweller will simply turn to ash.

In Minatsol, a land where dwellers (subservient race) serve sols (dominant race), two of the most intelligent dwellers per village are sent to Blesswood to begin their attending to sols.

Willa, mostly known for being clumsy and accident prone to the point they always have medical kits in her home, expects that it will be her best friend Emmy who is chosen to attend Blesswood. But due to a stunt she had pulled earlier to change her school records, Willa is chosen to go with Emmy.

When they arrive at Blesswood, Willa is accidently assigned to be a servant to male sols because they had shortened her name to Will. Instead of being reassigned, the Abcurse brothers choose to keep her.

On her second day serving the brothers, they sneak out of Blesswood and into Topia, the world of the gods. The brothers need Willa to sneak into Luciu, where the original gods live, to steal a cup from their father, which she manages to do, but not without accidentally stabbing a god.

On their way back to Blesswood, Willa and the brothers are confronted by the god Rau (the god of Chaos), who wants the Abcurses to help him protect a chaos student so that when they die the student will join him as his beta, to which they refuse.

Rau sends a blast of energy at the six of them which hits Willa in her heart, it doesn’t kill her but essentially ties her soul to the brothers, and long distance from the brothers physically hurts her.

After she is kidnapped by Elowin, for upsetting the natural order of things and being on the gods’ radar, the brothers decide to go after her. Siret gets stabbed and has be taken to Topia to be healed, and this is when Willa finds out the boys are the sons of gods.

This first book just gives you a brief outline of the overall plots, character introduction, and layout of the Curse of the Gods world, the story starts to pick up after this.

At first, I was torn between Willa and Emmy’s friendship. While Emmy seems to help Willa with her clumsiness, she also doesn’t take Willa’s concerns seriously and just brushes her off. But as you learn more about them, you feel how they see themselves as sisters.

Even though the brothers come off as sadists in the beginning, you’ll see how different they become after spending time with Willa and how they come to care for her, and it’s actually really sweet.
