He’s an agoraphobe who has left his home in years, she’s running from her abusive husband and comes crashing into his life, literally.

After her car swerves off the snow-covered roads and hits a tree, Elizabeth James loses all memory of who she is and what happened to her.

As a recluse, Joshua doesn’t like being around people, other than those that assist him. During a snowstorm, Joshua finds Elizabeth slumped over the steering wheel of her car, her head bleeding.

He gets her into his home and while he cleans her up, he sees just how broken and bruised her body is, and vows to protect her.

When she awakes, they discover she has amnesia and affectionately Joshua names her Rabbit. This is their love story, complete with the villainous husband getting his hands on Elizabeth again, and Joshua rescuing her.

I didn’t like the way Joshua spoke to Elizabeth in the beginning, he got angry with her for being curious about him, and I just felt that someone wouldn’t talk that way to a victim of abuse, let alone one with amnesia.

While the book was well written and each character clearly thought out well, I did find some of the love declarations a little cringy. I normally swoon when characters declare their love for one another, but I cringed with their declaration.

The standoff scene between Joshua and Elizabeth’s husband is epic and was written so well that it feels like you are there with the characters, witnessing it all.
