Where There’s Smoke – Melissa Huxley

This is the story of Melody who owns and lives in an animal rescue center, and her time living in the firehouse with Alpha firefighters. You may remember her appearance in Melissa Huxley’s Packed in the Firehouse.

After feeding a two-week-old Dalmatian puppy, Melody goes to make food, distracted by the dogs barking, Melody isn’t in the kitchen when it catches alight. Firefighters are called out and try to prevent her from going back into the building to rescue the animals, but Melody isn’t having any of it.

Melody tells Samson, Elliot, and Fitz that she has somewhere to go and drives around until they leave, and she ends up sleeping in her car with the puppy in the burned parking area of her rescue.

Elliot, who is also an arson investigator, ends up having to go back to the shelter that night to take photos and finds Melody in her car and gets her to stay at the firehouse.

Her whole life Melody believed she was just a Beta with a sweet scent, even after Elliot, Samson, Fitz, and even Sunny tells her that she is an Omega, she is still convinced that she’s a Beta.

Early one morning Melody can’t sleep and starts exhibiting the signs of nesting without her realizing what she is doing and even goes so far as to steal blankets and shirts from Elliot, Samson, and Fitz and one intimate session finally has her believing she’s an Omega.

A few days later, Melody goes through a surprise heat which brings Pack Wilder closer to her and cement their intentions to court and bond her.

There are many ups and downs throughout the book that make it an exciting read for those who love the omegaverse.

This is an incredible sweet book and the way it is written really makes you feel for the characters, especially Melody, who not only has to contend with her shelter being burnt down but also her designation changing. I really love Melissa Huxley’s books, and this one was definitely worth the wait.
