Ivory has lived her whole life believing her family was the true rulers of their dukedom (Delacroix), even though she has questioned why her family’s name and that of the ruling king are not recorded in the history books. It’s not until she is kidnapped by Huntley, a palace guard or so she thought, that Ivory learns the horrifying truth not just behind her family’s rule but that of the entire kingdom.

Huntley has spent most of his life planning and preparing for revenge on the man the who killed his father and assaulted his mother. But what he doesn’t prepare for is falling in love with the daughter of his enemy.

This book was exciting from the get—go and was one I absolutely devoured in a day because I just couldn’t put it down and had the second book downloaded onto my Kindle and ready for me to jump right into. The story is captivating and truly unique.  It has vampires, dragons, healers, and so much more. This series is a true work of art.

Ivory’s strength, both in mind and body, makes her a true heroine and not a simpering damsel in distress. I love how she fights Huntley at every turn and doesn’t cower before any of her enemies.

The way the story goes leaves you wondering who to root for because there are so many twists and turns. One character I just couldn’t get on board with was Huntley’s mother. I know a lot happened to her and her mind is warped, but the way she treats Ivory, and her own children for that matter, was cruel and didn’t make me very sympathetic towards her. Maybe you guys will feel differently.

If you start this series, I recommend that you put aside an entire weekend because you won’t want to be distracted!

The next book in the series is The Broken Queen.
