With Gage now in Avalon and the academy healing from the attack, and her grandmother cured of the curse, Tatum begins her training to take on the special mission Cael has set out for her.

While impatiently waiting for Gage to return, Tatum is sent on a mission with her new friends and ends up losing one, Skye, to a level 10 demon. However, after Skye’s death, Tatum realizes that she can see the dead, when Skye randomly pops up and tells her Gage is alive.

A few days later Gage returns from Avalon, stripped of his Shade powers, and is basically human as he wasn’t gifted new powers.

During Skye’s funeral the team is called out to a demon attack at a nightclub, this is where Tatum faces the level 10 demon that killed Skye. During her faceoff with the demon Aurum, a guardian angel from Avalon, appears instructing Tatum on how to kill the demon and informing her that her “special” mission is to destroy the Netherworld and free the trapped souls.

I won’t give much more away, but note this book ends on a cliffhanger too, so be sure to have book three at the ready.

I felt very sympathetic towards or heroine throughout this book. Not only did she have the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she also is navigating this new world while trying to give Gage a purpose, as well as planning a rescue mission to save her mother.
