During her time in the pack she is abused and assaulted, not just by her adoptive parents, but also the pack members. She lives among Fenrir wolves, who don’t shift, which just makes her more of a target for their cruelty.

Everything changes for her when she is sent to Silver Falls University, a place she never applied to, and finds out there is so much more to her than she knows. She also learns the real reason she was sent to the university, and it’s not out of the goodness of someone’s heart but rather that the president of the university bought her from her pack to breed.

When Effie gets off the train she meets Julian, another bitten wolf and who is part of a blood-bonded pack, who happens to be one of her fated mates, not realizing that’s what they are to her. She also finds out from Ruby and Aanya, who become her friends, that she is their mate.

What I really love about this book is that it has multiple POV’s, I love knowing more than just one character’s thoughts and feelings. What I didn’t like was that the author seemed to repeat themselves a bit and gave information that added nothing to the storyline. I gave a very brief recap as there is a lot that happens in the first book, and I didn’t want to give away too much of the plot.

This book is an extremely slow burn and does take some time to get into, but it does pick up, make sure that you are reading without distractions as it is a bit of a difficult read. It really has a good plot, but I think there is a lot that could’ve been left out to make it easier to read. The entire first half of the book is just about her first day arriving at the university, this gives you an indication of how slow it moves.
