Three years ago, Alexandria’s mother was told the fate of her daughter and took her on the run from the Covenant and Daimons. After her mother’s death, Alexandria is left to protect herself from Daimons until one night three Sentinels from the Covenant, including her crush and full-blood descendant of one of the Greek gods Aidan, find and rescue her from Daimons that cornered her.
Daimons are pure-bloods that have been corrupted by the addiction to aether, which is what gives pure-bloods their elemental magic. Half-bloods also have some aether that allows them to have the same speed and strength as a pure but without elemental instead they can see through a Daimons glamor.
She is taken back to the Covenant and to her stepfather, who tells her he has a place in his household for her as servant. All Alex had ever wanted was to become a Sentinel, and Aidan offers to get her back into training and is reunited with her best friend Caleb.
While back at the Covenant, Alex learns from the oracle what her mother was told about Alex’s future, this includes her being an Apollyon, a half-blood that has access to elemental magic as well as Akasha, the fifth element, that can destroy Daimons.
Apollyons were created to ensure the pure bloods didn’t overtake the gods. Their magic activates when they are 18 and only one Apollyon is meant to be born each generation, but now there are two, Seth and Alex. This is only the second time in their history this has happened. When there are two Apollyons the power they have can shift to one of them and they would have enough power to kill a god.
When her stepfather and member of the council, Lucien, comes to see Alex, she meets Seth, who is assigned to Lucien, and finds out her mother never dies in the Daimon attack, but instead became a Daimon herself. After her mother kills s group of pure bloods and successfully turns a half-blood, Alex feels it’s her responsibility to take her mother’s life, and in doing so she puts her and Caleb’s lives at risk.
Only Titanium can kill a Daimon, and it was always thought that half bloods couldn’t be turned, but after her mother turns Kain, they find that Akasha is the only way to kill them.
As a half-blood, it is illegal for Alex to pursue any romantic relationship with a full-blooded descendant, although this doesn’t stop Aidan and Alex from falling for one another.
This is a very brief run down of what the first book is about. and I covered the main plot points, but so much happens that I haven’t included it in this post. If you enjoy books about forbidden love, love triangles, and Greek mythology then you will be addicted to this series and not want to put the books down. I have read this series multiple times and absolutely adore the characters.
Jennifer is an amazing author and gives enough description that allows you to imagine the characters, their surroundings, and what they’re going through without going overboard. She has this incredible way of making you feel what they feel and makes you feel for them. I often got angry on behalf of Alex and the other half-bloods.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this book, so feel free to comment below.
