In the war between the Ravens and Humans, Lady Galantia finds herself caught between who she was raised to be and who she really is. All her life she has never truly felt a mother’s love or had her father’s approval and put this down to being born a girl.
On her way to meet her betrothed in the Capital, she is violently taken prisoner by the Ravens because their Fate had seen her in a vision. She is captured by Sebian, a pathfinder, and Malyr, the Lord of Shadows and essentially the leader of the Ravens. They intend to trade her back to her father, Lord Brisden, in exchange for the Raven Marla, who he has kept prisoner.
During the book we find out that the Raven’s home of Valtaris is covered in Malyr’s shadows after the humans attacked the area and his shadows burst out of him on their own accord, killing his parents and little sister.
Humans have also been allying themselves with the Ravens to save themselves, and at Deepmarsh Castle, Galantia becomes friends with Lady Cici, whose father has bent the knee to Malyr.
All her life Galantia had been led to believe that the Ravens were evil, kidnapping King Barat’s betrothed, but she will soon learn the truth behind the war.
With all the twists, turns, and revelations in this book, you’ll not want to put it down. I struggled to do my housework because I just wanted to keep reading. This storyline is very original and gripping and I cannot wait to dive into the second book of this duet.
This book contains scenes of sexual assault, and it was really disturbing, I am not usually triggered when I read things like this, because I know it’s fiction, but these scenes really got to me. They take place when the characters are younger, and them into being who they are as adults and not being able to have healthy relationships in the bedroom.
I don’t often use profanities, but Lord Brisden and his men are sick fucks and deserve everything coming their way. Sebian is my favourite character, while he is loyal to his prince, he is also fiercely protective of Galantia.
Don’t forget to get your copy of Shadows so Cruel to conclude Malyr and Galantia’s story.
